Section 31 director promises a "wild ride that is still Star Trek"

Section 31, the streaming channel movie at Paramount+ starring Michelle Yeoh, is set to premiere on January 24, 2025, and it's getting a lot of hype. Yeoh has won an Academy Award since her time as Emperor of the Terran Empire, but even prior to that she has more than proven herself to be a formidable actor who captures viewers' attention, which will be largely what the film will rely on to bring in the fans.

Though a villain initially, Philippa Georgiou, found a soft spot for the alternate universe version of Michael Burnham [Shonequa Martin-Green] and won viewers over with her sarcasm, wit, and incredible fighting skills. No doubt all of that will be on display in the new movie. Director Olatunde Osunsanmi's description of the film offers more than just another exciting ride with the Emperor. [Via Screenrant]

"Well, if you want a wild ride that is jaw-dropping, has twists and turns, blows your socks off, characters that are doing things that maybe they shouldn't do, plus a little bit of Starfleet with Rachel in there, that is still Star Trek, then this is the movie for you. It's great. We get in and out and we surprise a lot of people with it and then we keep it moving. So I'm really hoping people like it."

That is a lot to promise in a movie that released a trailer panned by a lot of fans. But then again, it makes sense that a movie about a secret division of Starfleet, which isn't really a secret anymore, would have twists and turns and characters doing things they shouldn't be doing.

Regardless of what the director has to say about the movie, fans will have the final say, and that say could affect the future of Star Trek films at Paramount+. For that reason alone, most of us are hoping the movie delivers everything Osunsanmi promises and more.
