Boldly make a day of it this September to commemorate six decades of sci-fi magic.
Star Trek fans will have several more opportunities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of creator Gene Roddenberry’s science fiction franchise this fall thanks to special screenings which are officially warp-speeding to select Cinemark Theatres soon.
Starting on Friday, Sept. 4, as Captain James T. Kirk’s son, David Marcus, once said, “This is where the fun begins,” with a double feature of The Original Series season 2 episode “The Changeling,” and the feature film that started it all in cinemas: Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) — the director’s edition.

Saturday, Sept. 5 | Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) — director’s cut — and “Space Seed” (1967)
Sunday, Sept. 6 | Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) and “Amok Time” (1967)
Monday, Sept. 7 | Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) and “The City on the Edge of Forever” (1967)
Now, for those die-hard Trekkies and Trekkers out there, or even fans who want to make a day of it, all four double-feature events will also be shown one after another on Star Trek Day (Tuesday, Sept. 8) at select Cinemark Theatres across the United States.
For those who might be new to the fandom, each Star Trek double feature was paired together by Cinemark for a reason. For instance, The Original Series season 1 episode “Space Seed” introduces the franchise’s most iconic villain, Khan Noonien Singh (Ricardo Montalban), who returns 15 years later to seek revenge against Admiral James T. Kirk (William Shatner) in The Wrath of Khan.
Meanwhile, TOS season 2's “Amok Time” is integral to understanding what happens between Lt. Saavik (Robin Curtis) and Teenage Spock (Stephen Manley) in The Search for Spock. The young Vulcan is forced to face the mating cycle of pon farr on the Genesis Planet, and Spock would have certainly died had Saavik not intervened to help him.
Finally, two of Star Trek’s most memorable time-travel stories are paired together for the final Cinemark double feature: The Voyage Home and The Original Series season 1 episode “The City on the Edge of Forever.” Although, it's worth noting that these two installments do not directly link to one another.
