“Can you feel the heat?”
One of the most memorable moments from this year’s Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 press tour happened, of all places, on The View. And the must-see impromptu encounter between SNW’s actor Anson Mount and the morning show’s co-host, Joy Behar, can only be categorized as scene-stealing. Check out the video below.
Mount walked out onto The View’s set and first greeted fellow Star Trek actor Whoopi Goldberg, who most famously portrayed Guinan on The Next Generation, and then he later approached Behar. Again, Mount graciously leaned in and smiled right before Behar and the on-screen captain of the Enterprise locked lips to the delight of those in the studio audience.
This was delightful because those watching could tell right away that both Mount and Behar were eating up the moment. “Wow,” Mount mouthed as he took his seat next to Behar, and the audience continued applauding the Star Trek actor’s memorable entrance. “Morning!” Mount joked as he prepared to wipe the bright-red lipstick off his lips.
Goldberg tried to right the hilariously derailed train, but then Behar felt the need to explain by saying: “Last time he was here, he brought me flowers for my birthday, and it’s never been the same between us.” Mount laughed and smiled before answering, “Well, I got married.”
“I know that’s what I mean,” Behar responded.
“Can you feel the heat?” Mount later joked about his and Behar’s on-set chemistry during the entertaining interview. Unfortunately, once the ship set sail again, though, Mount didn’t offer any new revelations or spoilers about SNW season 4, although all the hosts enjoyed speaking with him about the upcoming Pike puppet episode
However, on a more serious note, Mount was eventually asked about his experience filming his role alongside Britney Spears as her love interest in Crossroads. And as a lifelong Star Trek fan, I love that he brought up the film’s other big star Zoe Saldana — another Trek actor — who also appeared in the 2002 romantic comedy. “And now to see Zoe win an Academy Award is just stunning,” Mount told The View’s hosts.
