“I mean, you know there’s a puppet episode coming.”

Star Trek fans who took issue with unusual Strange New Worlds episodes like “Subspace Rhapsody” and “A Space Adventure Hour” can come out of the decon chamber and take a deep breath. Yes, executive producer and co-writer Bill Wolkoff says there will be “more classic Star Trek episodes” in season 4.

However, don’t forget — Wolkoff sure isn’t — that Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) is going to be transformed into a Muppet-esque puppet in one of the new episodes slated to drop this summer. Wolkoff said in an interview (per TrekMovie.com): “I think we do have more what you would call more classic Star Trek episodes.

"It’s still our show and we still do the things that our show does," Wolkoff explains. "I mean, you know there’s a puppet episode coming. I would call that a big swing. Is every episode a puppet episode? Of course not.”

Wolkoff continued by saying:

“And there are probably more classic episodes mixed in. And for every ‘big swing’ — that is a term that gets bandied about, but we want every single episode to be a Star Trek episode even if it is a big swing [...] There are perhaps less of what you know we would have called those in previous seasons.”

In addition to the episode, which features puppet Pike, Star Trek fans also need to know that there’s a Land of the Lost-esque installment included in season 4. Yes, the crew of the USS Enterprise comes upon a planet inhabited with dinosaurs, and a puppet from Jurassic Park was actually used during the production.

Plus, according to Strange New Worlds co-star Rebecca Romijn, “there’s a fight scene between one of our characters and that puppet.” Personally, I consider that a “big swing,” too, but I’m so excited to see Number One (Romijn) and her landing party mix it with a prehistoric foe.
