Some of the most exciting moments for the franchise came out of the Paramount Skydance Corporation’s formation: the announcement of not one but three Star Trek films. A week after Paramount and Skydance officially merged, the word came down that J.J. Abrams was going to produce two Treks, and one of those movies was going to feature Captain Kirk’s crew.

Although, there’s still no official word if this means the Kelvin Timeline regulars, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, and company, are returning, or if a new group of actors will be cast as Kirk, Spock, Uhura, and the others.

Abrams’ other movie production will feature different characters just like the third upcoming Star Trek film announced in 2025, which will be helmed by the writers of Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming: Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. The dynamic directing duo was also behind the box office success of 2023’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Three new films make for some of the most fascinating Star Trek moments in 2025, but the quality of the upcoming projects will ultimately determine just how good this news really is. Trekkies certainly don’t want another Section 31 or Star Trek V: The Final Frontier coming out of warp speed and landing in their laps.
