An anniversary worth celebrating

The third film in the Kelvin timeline, after Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), opened in the summer of 2016s. The film, directed by Justin Lin and co-written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, embraces colorful space adventure and character-driven humor rather than bleak darkness, immediately setting it apart from its predecessor.

Critics praised Beyond at the time as a course correction that preserved the essence of The Original Series while also offering the fast-paced action expected from modern blockbusters. In the years since, it has quietly grown to be a fan favorite and is often recognized as the best or most “Trek-like” of the reboot trilogy. That reputation only adds to its claim as a must-see in its 10th anniversary year.
