3. Jeffrey Hunter

Jeffrey Hunter originated the role in the Star Trek pilot, “The Cage.” He was solid, but this Pike came across as distant—reserved, formal, and a little too removed to feel fully human. The pilot itself was ambitious, and Hunter’s performance reflected a more old-school, classical approach to the character.
Hunter laid the foundation for Pike, but the portrayal didn’t quite spark the enduring connection that Mount and Greenwood later achieved. Still, as the originator, Hunter deserves credit for introducing the character and setting a standard for all future actors to build upon.
