“We are leaving the past behind and going somewhere brand new.”
Captain Seven of Nine and the crew of the USS Enterprise-G are boldly going where no characters from the beloved science fiction franchise have gone before this fall. Yes, writer Christopher Cantwell and artist Dennis Menheere’s upcoming Star Trek comic book series plans on departing from the four known Quadrants Earth’s sun is situated at the center of. Cantwell said in an interview with SYFY Wire:
“That means they’re venturing outside the Quadrants. Yes, even this has been done before, but we are going into unexplored space. Of course, one can make the argument that only 22 percent or so of the Quadrants themselves have been mapped and explored. But from a dramatic perspective, I wanted this story to say we are leaving the past behind and going somewhere brand new.”
If the Cantwell-led Star Trek comic book series is indeed venturing beyond the known Alpha, Beta, Delta, and Gamma Quadrants into unknown areas, it appears the Enterprise-G won’t be lost in space like the USS Voyager was in the beloved series of the same name.
Judging solely from the story’s synopsis, Captain Seven and her crew are on a secret mission in which they’ve willingly ventured beyond the aforementioned quadrants “into a hidden region of space where time fractures, minds unravel, and an unseen power manipulates fear itself.”
I’m a huge fan of Seven, but I also think that it’s ironic that the half-Borg, half-human Starfleet commander is again exploring another Quadrant of Star Trek. For those who aren’t as familiar with the television series Voyager, Captain Janeway and her crew were lost far away from home in the unknown Delta Quadrant, and Seven became a part of that quest to get back to Earth in the show’s fourth season.
However, with Seven sitting squarely in the captain’s seat, I feel confident the Enterprise-G will complete its secret mission and return home safely. Do you plan on reading Christopher Cantwell’s new Star Trek comic book series?
