3. Lear and Tuvok on the Excelsior
The audio drama’s framing story gives “Do Your Worst” an extra layer that a TV adaptation could use beautifully. Dr. Rosalind Lear’s investigation into Khan’s past, with Ensign Tuvok and the USS Excelsior providing a Starfleet perspective, allows the story to question how history remembers people.
Lear is not simply revisiting the legend of a villain. She is trying to understand the people left behind on Ceti Alpha V and the choices that pushed Khan toward the man he would become.
A streaming episode could use Lear’s log entries as a structural counterpoint to Khan’s present-day struggle. While Lear studies recovered evidence in the sterile quiet of a Starfleet ship, the audience could see the living world behind those records: the Augments planning, arguing, grieving, and finding ways to keep going.
Tuvok would be especially useful in these scenes because his reserved perspective could challenge Lear without dismissing her compassion. Their conversations could ask an essential Trek question: how should Starfleet judge a historical figure whose worst actions are well documented, but whose suffering and responsibility have been reduced to a footnote?
