The Enterprise-D LEGO will have soon have some bricky company.
Star Trek fans mark those calendars and reminders because a brand-new LEGO set is boldly going into the final frontier this fall. Yes, the rumors are true, and The Original Series is getting the bricky treatment as the bridge of the USS Enterprise and its transporter room are being immortalized in LEGO legacy.
In a piece published by ScreenRant, it's revealed that the starship Enterprise’s bridge can interlock with the transporter room, and a total of eight fan-favorite Star Trek characters are included: Captain James T. Kirk, Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, Mr. Scott, Lt. Uhura, Mr. Sulu, Nurse Chapel, and, of course, Mr. Chekov.
The Original Series Enterprise set will also include several accessories which Star Trek fans will immediately recognize, according to SR’s report, including Spock’s lute and, surprisingly, Vulcan's most recognizable weapon (the deadly lirpa), which was featured not only in the TOS episode “Amok Time” but also during the Strange New Worlds must-see installment “Spock Amok” when Spock’s human-half fights his alien-half in a dream.
I couldn’t spot the lute or lirpa in the photos, but other accessories are clearly visible in the official images from the LEGO Enterprise set, including Type 2 phasers, tricorders, and even Sulu’s fencing sword for The Original Series episode “The Naked Time.”
Now, here’s the touch that I love the most about The Original Series LEGO bridge set, which I hope Trekkies and Trekkers alike will also appreciate. There is a Klingon featured on the viewscreen that is a clear homage to beloved TOS guest star William Campbell — the lowly Squire of Gothos — who played Klingon Captain Koloth in the classic “The Trouble with Tribbles” episode.
What a great callback to Koloth, and, by the way, SR reports tribbles are also featured in the set. So, thanks to LEGO including the transporter room, Star Trek fans can display Scotty actually beaming the hungry creatures onto the Klingon ship — no exposition required this time around.
Star Trek fans interested in purchasing the Enterprise TOS bridge and transporter set will be happy to know that it is much cheaper ($199.99) than the massive $399.99 Enterprise-D LEGO from The Next Generation, and the new set will go on sale starting Tuesday, Sept. 1, via the company’s official website and through physical LEGO stores.
Are you planning on attending this year’s San Diego Comic-Con? Well, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the Marriott Marquis hotel — only a five-minute walk from the convention center — will display a Star Trek captain’s chair made of just over 83,000 LEGO bricks!
