12 Star Trek movies are FREE to stream on this site (but there's a catch)

Almost every Trek film is now free to watch, but it’s strange the platform made this choice.

For those fans out there who don’t subscribe to Paramount+ and would love to relive the magic of almost every Star Trek movie, all the big-screen installments with the exception of one title is currently available to stream absolutely free on Pluto TV. However, the streaming platform made an interesting choice in only offering these classic Treks in Spanish, rather than English, too.

If you’re a newcomer to the Star Trek fandom and have been dying to start watching virtually all the 13 big-screen Treks, you’re going to need to speak Spanish to understand the free entries on Pluto TV. Yes, every title in the franchise’s movie selection from Star Trek: la película (Star Trek: The Motion Picture) to Star Trek: sin límites (Star Trek Beyond) is now available with the exception of First Contact (1996). And believe me, I searched for Star Trek: primer contacto, but it didn’t pop up.

I was hoping that there was an option to toggle the “subtitles” to English, for Star Trek fans who don’t speak Spanish, but that wasn’t offered for these particular selections on Pluto TV. According to the United States Census Bureau, Spanish is spoken in over 41.7 million U.S. homes. However, there is currently a total population of 342.6 million people living in the U.S.

Given that information, and the fact that Pluto TV’s headquarters is located in West Hollywood, California, I’m at a loss to understand why the streamer didn’t make both the English and Spanish-speaking versions of the Star Trek movies available, so that everyone can enjoy them, regardless of which language fans are fluent in. I also don’t understand why First Contact, which is one of the best big-screen Treks, didn’t make the cut at all.

As Redshirts reported earlier this month, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock are all FREE to stream on Tubi and in English.

Personally, since I’ve seen all the Star Trek movies, it doesn’t matter if I couldn’t speak Spanish. I can savor watching them again because I have viewed them all hundreds of times — and that’s not hyperbole either. However, I wish that Pluto TV would add the English-speaking versions, too, so that newcomers to the beloved science fiction franchise, who don’t speak Spanish, could also enjoy them.
