Are Trekkies excited about the “sneak peeks and surprises” promised at this year’s New York Comic Con?

Trekkies will converge on New York City later this week as the late Gene Roddenberry’s beloved Star Trek universe warp speeds back to the Big Apple for the 2025 New York Comic Con. This year’s NYCC will be held from Thursday, Oct. 9, though Sunday, Oct. 12, with Trek taking its turn in the limelight on this coming Saturday. And both Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy are scheduled to take center stage.

The SNW panel will feature four of the show's biggest stars: Ethan Peck (Spock), Celia Rose Gooding (Uhura), Martin Quinn (Scotty), and Melissa Navia (Ortegas). The Happy Sad Confused podcast’s own Josh Horowitz will moderate Star Trek’s time at the 2025 New York Comic Con, and many fans seem genuinely excited about the upcoming event. @comfymeadows wrote in the official announcement’s comments section on Instagram:

“Seriously contemplating buy[ing] a ticket… and also a ticket to fly to New York…. 🙂‍”

Eight cast members from Starfleet Academy are also scheduled to be on hand, including Academy Award-winner Holly Hunter and her Oscar-nominated co-star, Paul Giamatti. Hunter portrays Captain Nahla Ake, who also serves as the Starfleet Academy Chancellor. Meanwhile, Giamatti plays the villain, Nus Braka, who is part Klingon and part Tellarite. @leeorlando1475 added after seeing the NYCC announcement:

“Hoping to get into this room!! What a lineup!!👏”

Star Trek hopes to energize audiences as the beloved franchise takes over the Empire Stage from 3:15 p.m. ET until 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11. Those in attendance have been promised “sneak peeks and surprises” by the announcement, and both Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy will figure prominently at the event. Starfleet Academy’s own Kerrice Brooks will be attending NYCC, and the actor excitedly sounded off in the comments by saying:

“Woahoahhhh😍😍😍”

A fan on social media couldn’t help but offer their opinion on another Star Trek project that most Trekkies would love to see, which would feature the continued adventures of Paul Wesley’s James T. Kirk as he assumes command of the USS Enterprise. @doloreschabowski wrote in the comments:

“GREENLIGHT Star Trek: Year One!!!”

Certainly, Starfleet Academy and Strange New Worlds will take up most of the time. However, it’s also worth noting that Star Trek: Prodigy’s creators/showrunners, The Hageman Brothers, will attend the event. Plus, actors Brett Gray, who voices Dal R'El, and Bonnie Gordon — featured mainly as the voice of the USS Protostar's computer — are going to be on hand courtesy of Fanhome’s booth (#1301) on Friday, Oct. 10.

Plus, following the merger of Paramount and Skydance into the Paramount Skydance Corporation back in August, a goal to make more Star Trek movies was set by the conglomerate. “Star Trek is a priority across the company," the Co-Chair of Paramount Pictures and Chair of Paramount Television Dana Goldberg said (via Deadline).

Two Star Trek films are currently in the works according to the same report. One will feature brand-new characters. However, the other will center on Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, and the OG USS Enterprise crew, and it is being produced by none other than J.J. Abrams.

Will Trekkies get a taste of what's to come in either of the films at the upcoming NYCC? A tease isn't out of the question when one considers some of the big moments from conventions of the past. Zack Snyder and Harry Lennix both showed up to the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con teasing Batman v Superman three years before it opened in theaters. Plus, there is the infamous Blade announcement from Marvel at the 2019 SDCC, and that movie still hasn't hit cinemas.

What are you most excited about to see at this year's NYCC? Do you think a tease about either of the upcoming Star Trek films will actually happen? Share your thoughts and comments on the Redshirts Always Die Facebook and X pages.

Live long and prosper, Trekkies!
