Another new video game announcement drops on the heels of Shadow Frontier’s reveal.
Less than 24 hours ago, a brand-new Star Trek video game was revealed at this year’s IGN Live event at the Magic Box in Los Angeles. And another surprise announcement came today (Sunday, June 7) with news that the builder game Star Trek: Outposts Unknown will be available to play on the Steam Datase (DB) sometime in 2026. Trekkies can watch the short teaser below.
Developed by Magic Fuel Games and published by Playstack, the synopsis for Outposts Unknown reads as follows (per SteamDB): “Lead your crew across strange new worlds in this narrative driven outpost builder! Research, explore, and build as you face a mysterious cosmic force that threatens a new ally. Your adventure awaits, Captain!”
Those interested in trying out Outposts Unknown can play the demo now on SteamDB. Both Windows and macOS systems are supported, and Star Trek gamers will have the opportunity to build different facilities in the X’Lehari System. Ultimately, players will also come across and “uncover a cosmic force threatening all life in the system.”
Now, what I like about Outposts Unknown already is that it’s set during the same time period as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. However, when I looked over the footage, I didn’t see any of the USS Enterprise’s characters, like Captain Christopher Pike or Mr. Spock, listed.
Rather, there were characters/users called T’Pra and T’Prisaik — who I assume are Vulcans — listed under the “crew overview” section along with six other characters, who had 35 tasks to complete. Compared to the Ro Laren-led horror game Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, which was announced at IGN Live 2026, this is a much more family friendly experience based on what I saw from the two distinctly different game trailers.
Have you tried the game demo for Star Trek: Outposts Unknown yet? If you have, please share your thoughts and comments with us on the Redshirts Always Die Facebook and X pages. And fans can add Outposts Unknown to their wish list on Steam now.
Live long and prosper, Trekkies!
