“Wherever you’re going I know you’ll go boldly…”

Sir Patrick Stewart will always be remembered by Trekkers and Trekkies as Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise-D and E. However, the Critics Choice, Primetime Emmy, and Golden Globe nominee’s acting talents reached far beyond the scope of simply Star Trek. And one of his X-Men costars, the incomparable James McAvoy, fondly remembered the late actor by writing the following on social media, while also posting four memorable photos of the celebrity duo.

“Wherever you’re going I know you’ll go boldly,” McAvoy wrote (via his official Instagram), which was dedicated to Stewart. “I was lucky enough to work with Sir Patrick a number of times and he was always lovely to me. First as a fan and then as a colleague I count myself lucky to have gone with you for a short time.”

For those Star Trek fans who might not be familiar with Marvel Comics’ big-screen adaptations over the years, McAvoy portrayed the younger version of Stewart’s comic book character, Professor Charles Xavier, in the must see X-Men: Days of Future Past.

In my opinion, one of the best scenes from Days of Future Past features young Professor X (McAvoy) actually meeting and talking with his older counterpart (Stewart).

And, if McAvoy had his way, the talented actor would have also portrayed a younger of version Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek. He even pitched a compelling standalone series featuring himself as the iconic captain when he first took command of the USS Stargazer.

Live long and prosper, Trekkies!
