“I’ll miss my friend dearly.”
Star Trek’s immense family suffered another blow today, as the news of Captain Jean-Luc Picard actor Patrick Stewart’s death on Wednesday, Oct. 28, was revealed. And many of his fellow Trek actors like William Shatner and George Takei have been remembering the icon online. However, X-Men co-star Rebecca Romijn’s teary tribute video might be the most touching yet.
Romijn, who portrayed the mischievous Mutant Mystique opposite of Stewart’s Professor Charles Xavier in the original X-Men movies, posted the following video on social media honoring her co-star’s memory. “I’ll miss my friend dearly,” Romijn says, and fans can watch the entirety of the footage below.
“What a gift to have been your friend.❤️ Rest in peace, dear Patrick,” Romijn wrote on the Instagram post.
When Stewart and Romijn worked together for the first time in Marvel’s 2000 cinematic adaptation of the X-Men comic books, Stewart had already completed his seven-season run as Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise-D on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
In a serendipitous celebrity turn of events, Romijn herself would join the Star Trek franchise and family in 2022 as Number One, aka Una Chin-Riley, in The Original Series prequel show Strange New Worlds. Unfortunately, though, Romijn and Stewart never shared the screen together in Trek’s vast universe of films and television series.
Earlier today (Thursday, Oct. 29), another of Stewart’s X-Men collaborators, Hugh Jackman, also remembered the iconic actor following his unexpected death.
