“If we get the phone call, we’ll do it.”

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds still has two seasons yet to drop on streaming before the show puts back to spacedock for good. However, that doesn’t stop fans and the press from hounding SNW’s James T. Kirk actor Paul Wesley about portraying the character in a spin-off series, likely the Year One project, which has NOT been greenlit by Paramount Skydance and CBS Studios at this time.

Wesley attended the Indiana Comic & Pop Culture Convention on Friday, June 5, and explained that he and SNW co-star Ethan Peck, who portrays Mr. Spock, have discussed doing a follow-up already. Wesley said (per Collider): “We always talk about how we’d love to do a spin-off, and if they... if we get the phone call, we’ll do it. But we haven't got the phone call yet.”

Additionally, Wesley and Peck went on record earlier at this year's CCXP in Mexico City saying that they were both down to play Kirk and Spock again. In Indiana, though, Wesley joked that maybe the powers that be at CBS and Paramount misplaced his phone number.

Executive producer Alex Kurtzman has said in the past that other Star Trek series will likely happen in the future, despite unsubstantiated and irresponsible headlines suggesting that the Trek dynasty is coming to an end.

Hogwash: don’t drink the Kool-Aid. Rather, have some Earl Grey tea “hot,” just like Captain Picard and relax. Star Trek isn't going anywhere. and let's all hope Wesley get's that phone call.

To quote Mr. Spock, it’s logical to pursue a Wesley-led Star Trek series which builds on the success of Strange New Worlds. The announcement of Year One would certainly help some fans relax about the future, as they would then have another series to look forward to, in addition to the films being developed. However, Wesley doesn’t have the answers at this time... only that he wants to play Kirk again.

I seriously doubt that Star Trek is going to experience another lull like the four-year drought Trekkies had to endure after the demise of Enterprise (2001-2005) and before J.J. Abrams took the helm and returned the franchise to cinemas in 2009. Let's just hope that the executives behind any future Treks has the foresight to invite Wesley back — this time as the captain of the franchise's most beloved starship.
