Every year the Hollywood Motion Picture Sound Editors Guild honors the most talented sound artists that have contributed to television, film, animation, computer entertainment, and student productions. Star Trek: Prodigy was included as a nominee this year for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing β Broadcast Animation. The nomination is for the second season episode βThe Devourer of All Things, Part II." [via Trekmovie]
So far, this is the only award nomination for season two of Prodigy however, there is still a chance for a nomination for the 2025 Children and Family Emmys with nominations coming in December 2025. The first season of Prodigy received two Emmy-award nominations and production designer Alessandro Taini took home the award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation.
With fans proclaiming the second season of Prodigy as easily the best of the two, it won't be a surprise if the series is nominated for at least one Emmy, if not more. Season two of the animated series easily excelled in all areas and was the most Trek-like show of the year in some opinions.
Unfortunately, fan approval hasn't induced Netflix to order a third season of the successful youth-oriented series, and that's also despite the high numbers Prodigy pulled in for the streamer, especially internationally.
All twenty episodes of Prodigy's second season debuted on Netflix on July 1st, and the silence on the streaming giant's part is making fans nervous. And fans aren't the only ones wanting a renewal as even series star Kate Mulgrew has said she'll be disappointed if the series isn't renewed. With the successful combination of new characters and legacy characters from Star Trek: Voyager, Prodigy has filled a part of Star Trek space we didn't even know existed. And now that forty episodes have aired, we know there are a lot more stories to be told and can only hope Netflix executives see the benefits in renewewing the beloved series.
