Recollection: A Star Trek Story episode 2, “My Chicken Sandwich and Coffee,” builds effectively on the unease established in "Only in the Memory of Others" while using its Star Trek setting to make an already unsettling sci-fi feel even more ominous.
The young adult webcomic remains a deliberately paced mystery, but this chapter gives its unnamed protagonist more agency while ending on a discovery that expands both the scale of the ship and the questions surrounding it.
With that in mind, the following pages examine how the storytelling, character development, and artwork push Recollection's story ahead in episode 2.
3. Storytelling: A mystery with momentum
Episode 2 does a good job of moving Recollection forward without sacrificing its central mystery. The first chapter introduced a woman with no memories aboard an unfamiliar Federation vessel.
This adds a new layer by suggesting the ship may be carrying more passengers than anyone has acknowledged. The power drain now has a physical explanation, but its purpose remains unclear. JAID’s limited reaction to the protagonist overriding security also helps sustain the tension.
The hologram’s behavior raises the possibility that it is either unable or unwilling to intervene, and that ambiguity makes the ship itself feel increasingly untrustworthy. Recollection has already established that answers will not come easily, but episode 2 makes the search for them feel more urgent.
