“May you all LOVE long and prosper,” is how the son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry capped off his enthralling IDIC (Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations) speech, as he proudly displayed the Vulcan salute to those lucky enough to find a seat in Hall H at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
However, for those who didn’t or couldn’t make the trip to America’s Finest City, check out the 68-minute SDCC panel in its entirety and uncut, courtesy of Star Trek's official YouTube channel below. The first portion of the panel was hosted by a lifelong fan (Access Hollywood's Scott Mantz) of the beloved science fiction franchise, and Rod Roddenberry’s speech was just the tipping point of the afternoon’s engaging talks.
The start of the Star Trek Universe panel was devoted to the 60th anniversary of the sci-fi saga, which will be extravagantly and jovially celebrated in both the cities of Las Vegas and Philadelphia this fall. A number of beloved actors, including George Takei (The Original Series), Michael Dorn (TNG, Voyager, Picard), and Robert Picardo (Voyager, Prodigy, Starfleet Academy), all took the stage in Hall H representing their respective television Treks at SDCC.
Christina Chong was also on hand representing Strange New Worlds. And once the 60th anniversary celebration portion of the panel was over, she joined most of her SNW castmates on stage in Hall H to promote season 4, which just started dropping new episodes on Paramount+ July 23.
For those who weren’t at San Diego Comic-Con this year, I can say that the Star Trek Universe panel is definitely worth watching. However, temper your expectations because, unfortunately, the SDCC extravaganza didn’t reveal any new information on future series or films.
And while the Strange New Worlds sneak peek revealed during the event wasn't from season 5, the video did end with Paul Wesley’s CAPTAIN James T. Kirk observing a black hole from the bridge of the USS Enterprise, in what I suspect is the season 4 finale, “Tomorrow’s Enterprise.”
