Boldly going where no one will remember what happened the night before?
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 drastically shifts gears between its must-see horror episode, “The Griffin,” and the show’s next installment, “Human Best Friend,” which essentially appears to be a small-screen homage to filmmaker Todd Phillips classic comedy The Hangover.
Check out the teaser trailer for SNW season 4’s third episode below (per Paramount+ Mexico), and, yes, this is the one where James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) slaps and hugs Mr. Spock (Ethan Peck) all in the same scene, as promised in prior footage in photos.
The synopsis for Strange New Worlds’ fourth episode, “Human Best Friend,” reads as follows: “Shore leave on a pleasure planet turns dangerous when the crew's promised escape stops behaving like fun.” And, in addition to the new teaser, Star Trek fans can pore over 20 sneak-peek images, courtesy of the franchise’s official Instagram account below.
My biggest question after watching the “Human Best Friend” teaser: is Scotty (Martin Quinn) dressed as a Mugato? He is in some sort of costume, but it’s hard to catch a glimpse of the actual mask.
Regardless, I love that the uneasy relationship between Mr. Scott and Lt. Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia) continues to develop in the footage from episode 3.
I’m also glad to see that Dr. M’Benga (Babs Olusanmokun) and Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) seem to have more screen time in Strange New Worlds' third installment of 2026 after being mostly afterthoughts in the first two episodes of season 4: the dinosaur heavy “Valles Marineris and the ghostly haunted ship tale, “The Griffin Incident.”
What did you think of the trailer for “Human Best Friend” and all of the new images? Are you excited to witness the crew of the USS Enterprise going through the same or similar shenanigans as Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) did in 2009’s The Hangover — presumably without Mike Tyson and his tiger.
