“The scariest episode of Star Trek I’ve seen.”
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds returned triumphantly with a time-traveling season 4 premiere 65 million years in the making that brought about major ramifications. However, the scary stakes seem even higher when the USS Enterprise discovers a lost starship full of Night of the Living Dead-esque Starfleet officers in episode 2, “The Griffin.”
And one of the many Trek fans who already had the opportunity to see the haunted-house-in-space story at an early screening praised it as “the scariest episode of Star Trek I’ve seen.” Check out the full reaction video to “The [ghastly] Griffin” below, courtesy of Star Trek’s official Instagram account.
One Star Trek enthusiast who attended the special screening said, “I was biting my nails.” Another fan revealed after watching the second episode of Strange New Worlds season 4, “I am still shaking, actually. Can you see that?”
“It scared the daylights out of everyone in the theater,” one terrified Trekkie claimed. Another fan laughed, “I did not think Star Trek could be this scary.” Now, what I found most interesting about the reaction video was the small spoiler that there’s an unforgettable scene featuring actor Anson Mount’s Captain Christopher Pike in the sickbay of either the Griffin or the Enterprise — and it must be gruesome based on the reaction.
There have been some excellent Star Trek episodes set in the horror genre made over the last 60 years. For instance, Scotty’s (James Doohan) Jack the Ripper-centric “Wolf in the Fold” episode from The Original Series is still one I watch every Halloween. However, I know many fans enjoyed the psychological terror Commander Riker (Jonathan Frakes) endured in The Next Generation’s “Frame of Mind.”
Personally, though, Strange New Worlds season 4’s “The Griffin” reminds me of the must-see horror Subcommander T’Pol (Jolene Blalock) and the crew of NX-01 lived through when they come across a vessel full of Vulcan-zombie hybrids in Enterprise’s delightfully terrifying episode, “Impulse.”
Kirk, Spock, and La’an are three of my favorite Strange New Worlds characters, plus I have deep love of the macabre, so I can't wait to see “The Griffin.” How about you? What did you think about the reaction video?

Live long and prosper, Trekkies!
