Captain Kirk (Paul Wesley) is in command of the USS Enterprise in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4’s finale, “Tomorrow’s Enterprise.” The title is a clever play on words riffing off one of the most beloved episodes from The Next Generation, “Yesterday’s Enterprise.” And once again time travel plays an integral role in what will hopefully be another memorable Trek.
Star Trek fans can check out 20 new sneak-peak images below, courtesy of the science fiction franchise’s official Instagram account, and the synopsis for the final episode of Strange New Worlds season 4, “Tomorrow’s Enterprise,” reads as follows (per IMDb): “A temporal crisis brings Pike's Enterprise face to face with the future Kirk will one day inherit.”
Right away, fans will notice that both Celia Rose Gooding’s version of Lt. Uhura and Jesh Bush’s Christine Chapel are sporting hairdos comparable to those worn by the late Nichelle Nichols and Majel Barrett-Roddenberry when the iconic actresses first brought the characters to life in The Original Series 60 years ago.
Brian Markinson also returns for the Strange New Worlds season 4 finale as Dr. Boyce, whose character first served under Captain Christopher Pike (Jeffrey Hunter) in the Star Trek pilot “The Cage.”
So, it appears that “Tomorrow’s Enterprise” occurs sometime between the events of “The Cage” and William Shatner’s first episode (production order) as Captain James T. Kirk because of Boyce’s presence.
As all longtime Trekkies and Trekkers already know, it was Dr. Mark Piper (Paul Fix) — not Boyce — who served as the chief medical officer in Shatner’s first foray into the unknown during The Original Series’ “Where No Man Has Gone Before.”
No fans, unfortunately, Dr. Leonard McCoy (Thomas Jane) will NOT show up until the Strange New Worlds series finale at the end of season 5.
Honestly, the Strange New Worlds sneak-peek photos don’t give much away, but I do want to point out that there’s an image of Scotty (Martin Quinn) and Uhura, in which the latter is sporting her TOS hairdo.
So, unless the footage was cut from the episode, fans will finally see the Enterprise’s chief engineer kiss the starship’s communications officer, which was teased in the SNW season 4 official trailer — and is also an homage to their unexpected romantic entanglement in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.
