“I think what unites them is that they both have a good heart.”

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds returns this summer with 10 brand-new episodes, and season 4 of the popular streaming series promises the fans more of what they are dying for: James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) and Mr. Spock’s (Ethan Peck) ‘exciting’ relationship. During this year’s Comic Con Experience (CCXP) in Mexico, Peck spoke about SNW’s Spirk (Spock-Kirk) connection and what makes it so special by saying (per TrekMovie.com):

“We speak a lot on Star Trek about family and family, I think, describes a relationship with very strong and an un-undoable connection. When you have that kind of connection with someone, you have to mingle with parts of them you may not like. And I think between Spock and Kirk, there’s a great illustration of that. Because they have to coexist. They have to work together. And I think there are a lot of things that they don’t like about each other, which is what makes the relationship so kind of wonderful, interesting, and exciting.”

Wesley, who has played James T. Kirk since the Strange New Worlds season 1 finale, “A Quality of Mercy,” added to Peck’s analysis during the same sit-down by saying: “I think what unites them is that they both have a good heart. And at the end of the day, they both want the best for the Federation, for humanity. And I think that’s what unites them. And I think that’s how they have their shared bond.”

While Peck has been a series regular on Strange New Worlds from day one, Wesley’s version of Kirk is merely a recurring character. However, after only appearing in a single episode of season 1, the actor’s workload has steadily increased over the course of season 2 (three episodes) and season 3 (four episodes).

As a lifelong Trekkie, Kirk and Spock’s fascinating — yes, I went there —relationship is obviously one of the high points of Strange New Worlds for me. And despite some fans being disappointed in season 3, I thought the now unforgettable mind mind between Kirk and Spock in the finale’s “New Life and New Civilizations” was by far the best Spirk moment featured on SNW yet.
