It would have been most illogical.
Star Trek fans still have six episodes of Strange New Worlds to look forward to in 2027, which will bring the science fiction streaming series to a close. However, as it turns out, the SNW season 4 finale, “Tomorrow’s Enterprise,” “was potentially” going to be used as the show’s swan song. Co-showrunner Henry Alonso Myers explains in an interview with Inverse by saying:
“When we first broke this [“Tomorrow’s Enterprise”], we thought this was potentially the finale. We wanted to find an ending that both talked about the present and talked about the future and spoke to the kind of show that we knew it was going to head towards. In the middle of working on this, we made a few little adjustments here and there throughout the episode because we wanted to hold onto some stuff.”
I think Myers is being modest because “Tomorrow’s Enterprise” must have gone through a number of serious rewrites, and I can’t believe the Strange New Worlds series finale would ever focus solely on Lt. Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding).
I love the character of Uhura, especially how she is portrayed by Gooding. However, it’s clear that Paul Wesley’s Captain James T. Kirk will steal the spotlight when SNW season 5’s sixth and final episode drops sometime in 2027 — likely over the summer, but an official release date hasn’t been announced yet.
The only thing set in stone about the Strange New Worlds series final (season 5, episode 6) is that Dr. Leonard McCoy (Thomas Jane) and Mr. Sulu, who is portrayed by newcomer Kai Murakami, will both make their respective first appearances aboard the USS Enterprise — and Captain James T. Kirk will finally be in command.
