Star Trek icons share 'a special moment' on the set of Starfleet Academy

The Doctor is in, and his director appreciates it.

Jonathan Frakes posted the same photo with hilarious text

Robert Picardo’s social media post appears to be a response to the identical photo Jonathan Frakes posted on Instagram (above) just hours before but with a different message. Frakes superimposed the following words over the picture, “Poor Bob Picardo searching for a line reading […] Starfleet Academy Jan. 15.” Our beloved on-screen Doctor retorted with his own unique wit in the comments by saying, “And did I find one???”

It’s too bad Frakes is only working behind the scenes on Starfleet Academy. Sure, The Doctor’s appearance in the 32nd century can be easily explained — he is THE Emergency Medical Hologram (EMH) after all — but William Riker’s presence would be harder to realistically pull off. The former commander of the USS Enterprise-D is from the 24th century, so it would require some sort of time-traveling trick to get him back on screen and Frakes in front of the cameras again.

I’d love to see The Doctor and Riker interact! What about you? Are you ready to boldly go and watch a brand-new iteration of Star Trek next year? Share your thoughts and comments with us on the Redshirts Always Die Facebook and X pages. And Star Trek: Starfleet Academy debuts Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, on Paramount Plus.

Live long and prosper, Trekkies!
