Since Star Trek: Starfleet Academy began, a major highlight of the show has been Paul Giamatti’s performance as the outrageous pirate Nus Braka. His clashes with Chancellor Ake (Holly Hunter) only intensified in episode 6, "Come, Let's Away," when Ake needed Braka’s help rescuing some cadets from the murderous Furies.
Speakng to Collider, Giamatti and Hunter confirmed that Nus will be making another appearance toward the end of the first season. Giamatti said, "I come back with a big move at the end, towards the end. I do come back."
Hunter added by saying, "A grand gesture," with Giamatti agreeing: "Yeah, with a very grand gesture at the end."
This comes after Nus pulled off a scam proving he’s far more brilliant than his boorish behavior would indicate. He got Ake to agree to a deal to aid in stopping the Furies, and Ake discovered too late that Nus was working with the aliens to distract Starfleet forces so he could raid a base for some sort of classified technology.
The episode ended with Nus delivering a dark message to Ake promising further violence as he flat out hates her. As for what that attack will be, Hunter only said, “That’s all we can possibly say.”
Giamatti revealed during his recent appearance on The D-Con Chamber podcast he won’t be back for season 2, but he is open to reprising his role should a third season be greenlit. So, fans should expect a wild return for Nus, which could mark his final Star Trek appearance.
