Accidents happen, and it appears that one of the cast members from the upcoming series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy made one herself. No, the guilty party isn’t the Oscar-winning Holly Hunter, or even the show’s Academy Award-nominated Paul Giamatti. The faux pas was seemingly made by Gina Yashere, who portrays Lura Thok in Starfleet Academy.

Unfortunately, the comedian and actress slipped up while writing a social media post on Monday, Oct. 4, which appears to have revealed the release date for the Trek show as January 2026. Now, here’s how Yashere’s original Instagram post read at the end before she edited it (via ComicBook.com):

“See you in January 2026.”

Either Yashere recognized her mistake, or someone pointed it out to her very quickly, because as of the evening of Oct. 6, the Instagram post has been amended to read as follows:

"The prosthetic department at @startrek are a bunch of geniuses. And the costume department make my breasts look amazing. That is all 🤣 See you in early 2026🖖🏾"

Yashere was kindly giving props to the prosthetic team, as the actress posted a photo of herself in full makeup, which looks fantastic, by the way. Yashere may not be playing a lead character like Hunter’s Nahla Ake or even a villain like Giamatti’s Nus Braka. However, there’s still a lot of interest and buzz about Lura Thok online.

Yashere is portraying someone who is part Klingon, part Jem'Hadar on the show. Heck, perhaps there is a possibility Lura Thok will become fifty shades of evil. After all, Nus Braka is also part Klingon. Maybe, if they share any scenes together, they will bond over their war-like heritage. It could spell trouble for Starfleet Academy, if that's the case.

Hopefully, Yashere isn't being too hard on herself for the leak. After all, it practically happened on the eve of this year's New York Comic Con, and the Star Trek universe panel scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 11, almost certainly will be announcing Starfleet Academy's release date then. If not, this probably won't even equate to a little PR headache — certainly not a migraine.

The NYCC Star Trek panel will feature eight actors from the upcoming Starfleet Academy show, but Yashere is not slated to make an appearance on the Empire Stage. For more Star Trek content, visit the Redshirts Always Die Facebook and X pages.
