Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is one of those franchise series that debuted in controversy and never truly had a chance to grow. The show was canceled, but the completed second season will stream in the future, likely in 2027. The cancellation is a bitter pill for fans to swallow, especially those who related to the personal journey of the Klingon cadet Jay-Den Kraag (played by the talented Karim Diane).

In episode 4 of SFA season 1, "Vox in Excelso," Jay-Den faces not only the possible extinction of his people but also his own past and the truth about his family. Jay-Den also grapples with his true nature, which resulted in unnecessary real-life controversy that almost certainly affected the show's low rating.

With that in mind, the following are five reasons Starfleet Academy's "Vox in Excelso" is way better than its low 5.9 IMDb rating.
