A new cast member joins SFA.
Star Trek actors from every one of the franchise’s iconic series gathered together with fans in the San Diego Convention Center’s renowned Hall H to witness history in the making. Yes, the Star Trek Universe panel was the place to be today (Saturday, July 25), as actors from all corners of creator Gene Roddenberry's franchise showed up to celebrate 60 years of Trek.
And, while the Star Trek Universe panel did not provide a teaser of the second and final season of Starfleet Academy, one of the show’s actors, Karim Diane, revealed to those in attendance that a new cast member would be joining sophomore year. Check out the first-look image (below) of the alien cadet portrayed by Ruaridh Aldington, courtesy of Trek’s official Instagram account, which reads: “A new cadet joins the students of Starfleet Academy! Here's your first look at actor Ruaridh Aldington in season 2.”
I'm delighted to see a new image from the show, but I can’t get over the fact that such a hyped and highly anticipated Star Trek panel — in San Diego of all places — did not include at least some footage from season 2 of Starfleet Academy. Unfortunately, aside from all the iconic actors in attendance to celebrate 60 years of Trek, this SDCC gathering in Hall H was, in a word, disappointing.
Similarly, no footage of Strange New Worlds season 5 was shown at SDCC this year either. Rather, fans had to settle for a sneak peek of what’s to come during the rest of SNW season 4. The only other true revelation from today’s panel was that another season of the must-see animated series Scouts will drop on Sept. 8 for Star Trek Day.
