Star Trek fans have always been fortunate when it comes to visiting strange new worlds, and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is no exception. While much of the show takes place on board the academy's teaching ship, the USS Athena, the cadets also travel to distant places created by this series' talented creative team.

Karim Diane, who plays Klingon cadet Jay-Den Kraag, gave us all a glimpse of how the Starfleet Academy world comes to life in a recent Instagram post, which can be viewed below. Diane shared a behind-the-scenes video of the Khionian set from episode 7, "Ko'Zeine," including a breathtaking backdrop and a few examples of the beautiful costumes the characters wear while visiting Khionia's Sunset Moon.

Diane seems enchanted by it all, and that's no surprise, considering the magic that's made when the actors, set designers, and costume and makeup artists all come together to make these amazing worlds come to life.

The new worlds the franchise has taken us to over the last six decades are unforgettable, and Khionia's Sunset Moon is no exception.

For example, Darem Reymi's crown resembles twisted strands of intricate coral, adding to the aquatic nature of Khionia. It's familiar, maybe from a fairy tale you can't quite remember, yet it's unique and fascinating! No pun intended.

The costume department didn't miss with other pieces, either. Reymi's silver sleeveless shirt is covered in designs that remind me of fish scales, the kind you might see flash when a fish turns rapidly. It's a creative, stunning look that reminds me we aren't on the Athena.

Khionia's Sunset Moon itself reminds me a bit of Vulcan, with its huge moon and rock formations. Even the colors are similar, although this is very much its own planet. If I had to guess about the environment from these photos, I would say it's ancient and difficult to access unless you know somebody.
