As Star Trek fans already know, the franchise has been openly criticized by both White House Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller and multi-billion-dollar businessman Elon Musk.
Never known for keeping her opinions to herself, Oscar-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg chimed in on the matter while co-hosting The View. She kicked off her defense of Star Trek with the wonderful line, “They’re complaining that the show has gone woke."
Goldberg later added: "If you’ve never been asleep, you can’t be woke.”
Goldberg, of course, knows Star Trek intimately, having played Guinan on The Next Generation. That gives her far more insight into the franchise and a better standing to talk about its legacy. Check out the entire video below.

“This was a show that was created with the idea that people from other planets would come and we would all find a way to exist together," Goldberg said. "This was Gene's [Roddenberry] idea. This was his dream. And when you watch Star Trek, that’s what it shows you.”
Goldberg’s quotes are inspired by the current discussion around Starfleet Academy. While it’s sadly expected that there are some toxic parts of the fandom attacking the show, it got even wilder. Homeland Security Chief Stephen Miller shared a clip from an X feed called “End Wokeness” that showed Chancellor Ake (Holly Hunter) wearing glasses while sharing the screen with two actresses, one of which was Gina Yashere.
Elon Musk has also taken his own shots at the franchise's latest streaming series. In an X post (below), featuring the same clip from Starfleet Academy, Musk wrote, "Turns out they banned Ozempic and LASIK in the future lol[!]" And Musk actually claims to be a fan of Star Trek.

"Please, do your job! And we actors and people from outer space, we'll do ours," Goldberg said as she called out both Musk and Miller in defense of Star Trek.
Goldberg is dead right, as this entire thing is frankly ridiculous. We have a major member of the White House administration and the world's richest man wasting their time sharing the feelings of random people on the internet acting like a scene with realistic-looking characters destroys a 60-year-old sci-fi franchise.
Star Trek was woke before that term ever existed. Acting as if it’s suddenly transformed and “pandering” to certain audiences only proves you have never watched Star Trek before. With everything happening in the world now, Miller and Musk wasting their time on criticizing a streaming series is laughable.
Hopefully, this nutty situation will end soon, as Goldberg is right in that government officials should concentrate on bigger matters than a TV show and just let Star Trek do its thing as it always has.
