Check out more puppets joining Pike on the Enterprise.
“It's time to play the music. It's time to light the lights. It's time to meet” the puppets on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Thursday night. The Muppet Show’s theme song seemed an appropriate way to segue into the brand-new teaser trailer for SNW season 4’s fifth episode, “Level Five-Transporter Accident.”
And, yes, the new Strange New Worlds footage, which fans can watch below, courtesy of the Paramount+ Mexico Instagram, features more members of the USS Enterprise, in addition to Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), transforming into puppets. Plus, Spock is the only crew member who hasn't been "Muppet-fied," as he tries to save the ship from Orion pirates.
Strange New Worlds season 4’s “Level-Five Transporter Accident” synopsis reads as follows: “A transporter malfunction turns most of the crew into puppets while Spock fights to reclaim the ship.” Honestly, all I could think after reading the description is that it’s just another day aboard the Enterprise.
After all, the beloved starship has experienced its fair share of transporter mishaps over the years. My favorite incidents include Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) being split into “good” and “evil” versions of himself in The Original Series season 1 episode “The Enemy Within.”
And then there’s one of my favorite Star Trek episodes of all time. Members of the Enterprise crew (Kirk, Dr. McCoy, Scotty, Lt. Uhura) are forced to visit the Terran Empire after an ion storm affects the transporter in the must-see TOS season 2 installment “Mirror, Mirror.”
Yes, the Enterprise’s transporter constantly wreaks havoc, but it’s also been responsible for some of the franchise’s most memorable Treks. Will “Level-Five Transporter Accident” become yet another? Fans won't have to wait much longer to find out.
Unquestionably, given what was revealed in the new teaser’s footage, I’m most excited to see more of Pike's puppet during SNW's “Level Five-Transporter Accident.”
And after everything I've read about Commander Pelia's puppet (voiced by Carol Kane) in interviews, I think she still has the best chance to steal the show.
After all, the new teaser was exactly that, as it only showed glimpses of two other puppets created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop: Una Chin-Riley, aka Number One (Rebecca Romijn), and Lt. Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia).
