Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds drew mixed reviews from both fans and critics, but Christina Chong (La’an Noonien Singh), who appeared at Trek To Chicago this year, told panel attendees that the upcoming season is probably the best yet. Chong also spoke to TrekMovie.com about what she believes makes the season so special.
Chong revealed, "Oh I think it’s very different. I think its WAY better… It’s way better because there are more swings. And I just think there’s more social commentary, maybe that wasn’t there as much in season 3. And it’s a lot of fun. But there’s so many things in it. It is probably the season that has the most episodes that are genre-blending. So watch out. Be prepared."
What are fans looking for in the last 2 seasons of SNW?
When I talk to other Star Trek fans about Strange New Worlds, it seems that the series is a polarizing one. Those loyal to The Original Series mention how its placement between Enterprise and TOS seems forced, while others think the show tries too hard at following TV show trends when it would be better off building its own identity. I'd agree with that, as season 2's "Subspace Rhapsody" wanted to be Buffy the Vampire Slayer's "Once More, With Feeling" so badly but simply fell short.
Strange New Worlds still has two more seasons to go, so it should be interesting to see whether fans agree with Chong about their improved quality. The show returns to Paramount+ sometime in 2026.
