Unlike some Treks, SNW will be fully realized by the end of season 5.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds sets course for its return to streaming this July, but fans already know that their time with the crew of the USS Enterprise is down to 16 episodes and counting. However, SNW writer and co-executive producer Bill Wolkoff knows how fortunate the production team was to “properly” end the beloved science fiction series.
Wolkoff said in an interview (per TrekMovie.com): “I’ll just say this, because it [season 5] is so far away from actually coming out. I cried at every story break because of what we were able to pull off in every single story break. It’s a gift to be able to have the time to end a series properly. And we had that gift.”
Unlike other Star Trek shows, most notably The Original Series, which ended without a proper finale after three years on the air, Strange New Worlds was allowed a proper send-off by the powers that be at Paramount Skydance and CBS Studios.
For those new to the Star Trek fandom, the Strange New Worlds season 5 finale will mark Captain James T. Kirk’s (Paul Wesley) turn as the commander of the USS Enterprise, succeeding Christopher Pike’s (Anson Mount) memorable tenure in the captain’s chair.
I’m delighted that the Star Trek fandom will not only get to witness Kirk’s rise to the captaincy, but that we also have the opportunity — even if it is for just one episode — to meet both Dr. Leonard McCoy (Thomas Jane) and the Enterprise’s most famous helmsman, Hikaru Sulu (Kai Murakami).
However, before we get too far ahead of ourselves, remember that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 warp-speeds itself onto streaming first, even though those final six episodes in season 5 promise to be some of the most memorable from the entire series.

Live long and prosper, Trekkies!
