It turns out there’s a good reason for the seemingly random pictures going around of William Shatner eating cereal, and it’s hilarious!
William Shatner was recently photographed by TMZ eating cereal in his vehicle while sitting at a stop light in Los Angeles. Well, it turns out that the photos of the Star Trek icon are all part of a Super Bowl LX commercial for Kellogg's Raisin Bran that Shatner is filming for the big game. In a story published by Entertainment Weekly, the publication has "confirmed" the following, which reads:
"EW has confirmed that the pics are for Kellogg's marketing campaign leading up to Shatner's planned Super Bowl commercial."
TMZ followed up their original report by revealing Shatner's involvement in the upcoming Super Bowl commercial, too. The Star Trek actor joked about eating the cereal while in his vehicle by saying, “Kellogg’s Bran Flakes are so tempting, I might have succumbed to eating while driving with my knees.” Shatner also told the publication that much of the ad takes place on a spaceship.
This is likely a relief to Trek fans who were worried about erroneous reports regarding Shatner's health, which the actor denied. Shatner is clearly keeping himself busy at 94 years old, and it’s no wonder Kellogg’s figured he could be the star of a new ad for the popular cereal. They clearly have faith to put up the big bucks needed for a Super Bowl ad spot.
No other details about Shatner's Raisin Bran ad have been revealed at the time of this writing. Star Trek fans who are interested in seeing the commercial can watch Super Bowl LX Sunday, Feb. 8, at 6:30 p.m. ET on NBC. The game will also be available to stream on Peacock.
