It's official, but now the waiting game begins.
Controversy continues to swirl around Star Trek’s current streaming series Starfleet Academy. However, one thing most of the fandom can agree on is that virtually everyone wants to see the adventures of Strange New Worlds’ James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) continue in a possible follow-up show.
So, Trekkies are going to love the news that SNW co-showrunner Henry Alonso Myers officially confirmed at the Saturn Awards that Star Trek: Year One has been pitched to Paramount Skydance. “Yeah, we we’ve brought them a lot,” Myers said via TrekMovie.com.
“We’ve done a lot to give to them," Myers continued. "It’s in their hands right now. They’re taking a look at it, trying to decide it. I mean, there’s a lot of love for our show over there, and obviously a lot of love for Star Trek.”
Myers said in the same interview:
“We think it would be a great [series], it’s the next thing for Star Trek, we think, in the story that we’ve been telling. But it’s out of our hands.” Myers didn’t give away much more, but he did confirm “our sets have not been destroyed yet. That is what I can say…”
I’m truly excited about the possibility of Captain Kirk (Wesley), Mr. Spock (Ethan Peck), and company continuing to boldly go after Strange New Worlds winds up its streaming run.
Remember, though, there are still two more seasons of SNW to go before the show’s swan song drops. Season 4 will likely hit Paramount+ later this year but don’t expect season 5 to arrive until 2027.
So, if Year One is greenlit, it will realistically be at least 2028 before the crew of the USS Enterprise continues their voyages after the tenure of Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) comes to an end.
