Almost a year and a half after season three of Star Trek: Picard aired its finale, "The Last Generation," there are some actors such as Jeri Ryan, Michelle Hurd, and Todd Stashwick, and plenty of fans who are not ready to give up on the idea of continuing adventures with the legacy characters and the newer characters that made their debuts on Picard. LeVar Burton is one of those actors.
In an interview with TVLine [via Whatculture] the man behind Commodore Geordi LaForge is still onbard for the series that would follow Captain Seven of Nine , her first officer Raffi Musiker , and Admiral Jean-Luc Picard's son, Jack Crusher .
"The sentiment, then and now, at least for us, the cast, and the audience, two years on, seem to be just as interested in the idea of Legacy as when Picard was just airing."LeVar Burton
By now, most of us know that Legacy isn't going to be greenlit while the focus is on Starfleet Academy and the new comedy Trek series coming from Tawny Newsome and and Justin Simien. There are still some grumblings as to why the latter was chosen over Legacy, but there's likely a reason we'll never know. But Burton thinks a Legacy show just makes sense as he told TVLine.
"I would think that given the opportunity and the resources that they would want to do [Legacy]. It makes so much sense. It makes so much sense."LeVar Burton
Bringing any of the Legacy characters back to the screen is bound to cost more money than hiring newer talent for new shows. So while that could be a possible reason behind the hesitation to greenlight Legacy, Paramount+ is also taking a chance that these new series won't connect with audiences. While personally, I'll watch pretty much anything Star Trek, not every fan feels that way. But more Trek coming is a lot better than no Trek coming.
