What can Star Trek fans expect to see released in 2025?

Star Trek's schedule in 2025 isn't as robust as we've seen in the past but that doesn't mean we aren't getting new things to watch.

Star Trek is expected to have a quiet 2025. It's only natural, after all, 2024 saw Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Prodigy, and Star Trek: Lower Decks all release new seasons of their show. For Discovery and Lower Decks, it was the final season. For Prodigy, their fate remains unknown.

Yet, due to the turnover at the top of Paramount, and the new principal owner entering the picture, plus uncertainty about the company's profits and available resources, the studio has been a bit lean this year. 2025 currently doesn't have a lot to offer for fandoms of various products. Star Trek isn't unaffected by this by any means.

Currently, there are only two Star Trek properties getting released in 2025, a far cry from the idea that Paramount wanted to have Star Trek airing new episodes of various shows for 52 straight weeks just a couple of years ago. That idea was unsustainable and those with the power to know better should've known better.

Yet, it feels like a dramatic over correction now. What can fans expect in 2025? Well, let's find out.

Star Trek: Section 31

The first-of-its-kind made-for-streaming movie featuring Star Trek premieres on Jan. 24, 2025. Star Trek: Section 31 will premiere on Paramount+ as the first of hopefully many made-for-streaming movies from the franchise. If Section 31 does well with audiences, there will likely be more made. Thus ending the steady influx of constant new show after constant new show. A cheaper and more sustainable model for the streaming giant.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

The shows aren't being forgotten about, with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds getting its third season in 2025. Right now the release date is unknown but it should feature heavily in or around spring/summer. Though delays are always possible.

News about Star Trek: Prodigy + Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

Right now we wait on baited breath as we wait to hear about the news of Star Trek: Prodigy's fate. It's currently the only series not controlled by Paramount, with Netflix now owning the rights to the show. Its second season was received very well by the fandom but Netflix doesn't care about good reviews, only hours watched. Did Prodigy earn enough hours to keep going? We'll find out.

As for Starfleet Academy, it's still coming, unless Paramount collapses in on itself. The first season fo the show is in production as we speak, so it'll likely drop sometime in late 2025, if not early 2026 depending on how fast the crew can get their work done.

Other news

That's not all, as properties like Star Trek 4, the video game IPs, new merchandise, and even new shows and films could still be announced. Usually, you'd have to wait until Comic Con for those announcements but with the way media works these days, a new IP could be announced at any point and time. So it's hard to say what we'll see announced in 2025.
