For better or worse, Star Trek: Section 31 is officially in the books. The final verdict? Maybe the worst piece of property Star Trek has ever produced. It's the truth, as fans, both old and new alike, have rejected this film. Even divisive series like Star Trek: Discovery have a strong, but small, fandom. There are people who will argue in defense of that series.

They'll cite season three as a high point, and with that, one more positive than Section 31 will ever have. That's because there's very little if anything at all redeeming about the film. At least on screen. To such a degree that, while it has some who liked it, the film is universally panned. There's a fan or two across the board who like it, but there isn't a sizeable community like you'd see for Discovery.

So, thankfully, the film is done and no sequel should ever be made. With the conclusion of Section 31, what comes next for Star Trek fans?

Well, the first bit of good news, is we're only a few months away from the return of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Season three is set to premiere. We're not entirely sure when the show will make it to the airwaves, but we do know it'll be sometime relatively soon.

It'll be a good bounce-back project for Star Trek, who have been able to appease many fans with the series. It's the first show that universally succeeded in appealing to old and new fans alike to a large degree. It's a ratings hit for the franchise and a strong third season is exactly what we Star Trek fans need at this point.

Following Strange New Worlds is Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. The Holly Hunter-led show is expected to follow Strange New Worlds in the release window. We're hearing everything from the fourth quarter of 2025 (October through December) or the first quarter of 2026 (January-March). We're not sure how the show is going to go or what'll look like. There's been no teaser as of yet, let alone a trailer for the show.

Yet, the last two shows; Strange New Worlds and Prodigy, have shown that this leadership group can get things right, so it's possible that the next show continues the trend.

After that, we have two films in limbo. One Star Trek film that centers around the beginnings of the Federation, pre-Star Trek: Enterprise, just sounds like a bad idea, while the other is the long-awaited Star Trek 4.

It's very likely that we get some announcements sometime soon in regard to new projects. Especially after Strange New Worlds' season three debut and the release of the Starfleet Academy trailer.
