VIDEO: IGN Thinks New Star Trek Will Be Set Before TNG
IGN says clues in the new Star Trek teaser trailer make them think the upcoming CBS series will be set before Star Trek: The Next Generation.
IGN posted a video today where they discussed the teaser trailer for CBS upcoming new Star Trek series. The guys from IGN seem to think that certain clues in the trailer point to the series being set before Star Trek: The Next Generation.

So the basis of this theory is the planets and stars shown in the trailer. I’m not sure I’m sold that this is any kind of definitive evidence.
Sure the planet that’s falling apart could be Praxis, a moon of Kronos, or it could just be a shattering ice world. And the star could be the collapsing Amargosa, or it could just be a star.
Personally I think the images in the trailer were just images of space and not clues about the future setting of the series. We are still several months away from the series getting underway with serious filming in Toronto; it is awful early to be locking yourself into anything when you don’t have all your ducks in a row.
You can expect these types of rumors and theories to start coming hot and heavy from now on, until we know when the series is set there’s going to be endless discussion.
I kind of hope these guys are wrong. I of course will still watch the new Star Trek show if it’s set between Star Trek IV: The Undiscovered Country and Star Trek: The Next Generation, but I’d rather it not be. I think Star Trek is about moving forward and the future, the fact that Trek keeps going back to reboot and revisit the past of its own timeline is a mistake. Trek needs to keep boldly going, not boldly regoing.
