Kansas – Barbara Babcock

Barbara Babcock is a retired character actress originally from Fort Riley, Kansas. By the mid 1950s, she had started nabbing television appearances. This led to a greatly successful television career, which would fully start blossoming in the 1960s. Over the next several decades, Babcock would appear in many TV shows and feature films, concluding with her final role as Molly in Home Alone 4.

You could say Babcock’s most recognized role was for the show Hill Street Blues. She plays Grace Gardner on the series, a role that would nab her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Another show would get her an additional Emmy Award nomination. Babcock also plays Dorothy Jennings on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, a part that came close to capturing her another Emmy.

But earlier into her career, Babcock would often act for the original Star Trek series. She regularly provided voice work for the series, although some of it went credited. However Babcock has some on screen roles in the original series as well. For example, you might recognize her as Mea 3 in “A Taste of Armageddon”. She also plays Philana in the very classic episode “Plato’s Stepchildren”.
