In 2009 in an incredibly controversial move by Paramount the characters of the Star Trek the original series were recast, there were few ways this could be done acceptably and the route J.J. Abrams and company decided to go was with an alternate timeline, and with the USS Kelvin destroyed at the hands of Nero The Kelvin Timeline was born.

While many fans decry the move to split the timeline it’s actually a fairly elegant solution, we keep the original series and its follow ups completely intact, thus protecting the icon that started this whole thing while at the same time getting to break all the rules and established continuity in another sandbox right next to it.

But would we accept it being done again?
