Round one of the March Madness: Starfleet bracket is in the book! Who won, what are the matchups and is anyone surprised?

Most of what was expected to shake outdid in the first round of the March Madness: Starfleet bracket. The two stalwarts, James Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard won convincingly. Same with Will Riker and Spock. Yet, after that, a lot of close match up’s happened. You can see the winners below, as well as the next set of polls.

Some challenging matchup’s in round two, as Kirk gets Leonard McCoy, Jonathan Archer and Miles O’Brien will be another interesting showdown. Same with Data and Kathryn Janeway. That one should be interesting, as Data got Worf in the first round and won handily. I really thought that was going to go another way.

Benjamin Sisko will face a tall task in Seven of Nine, while T’pol emerges from a close first-rounder to get Michael Burnham. Spock and Chakotay, and Dax and Picard round out the second round.

One can guess which way some of these are going to go, but there’s a lot of uncertainty with some of these picks. Are we going to default to the top two seeds in Kirk and Picard?

The second round of the villains’ bracket begins Sunday and could be really interesting. I haven’t checked the first round numbers yet but if they’re anything like the Starfleet side, it could produce some rather interesting match up’s.

This set of polls will be open until Tuesday, March 31. So make sure you get in to vote for your favorite characters.
