The Stormfall video game trailer is the best Star Trek trailer in years
By Chad Porto
Star Trek Online has released its trailer for Stormfall.
Stormfall is the latest chapter in the Star Trek Online video game. Fans of the franchise can now hop in on a mission where mirror versions of Leeta, Kathryn Janeway, and Tilly are in a battle for the fate of the galaxy. You know, typical, every day, “Must be Tuesday” type of storylines.
Yet, fans of the franchise will want to keep an eye on this, as Kate Mulgrew, Chase Masterson, and Mary Wiseman have all returned to voice Janeway, Leeta, and Tilly; known in-game as Captain Killy. She’s clearly the villain.
The game is now live for players to hop on in, and the plot follows Leeta and Janeway teaming up with other characters to go save Ilia from Star Trek: The Motion Picture. There’s even a “threat” that Captain Killy is about to bring in past villains as well, so if you’re looking for a hit of nostalgia, this is for you.
The best part, however, is the trailer.
Star Trek Online’s trailer for Stormfall is brilliant
There was a time, some 20-30 years ago, when the best you could hope to get from a game’s upcoming release, is a few pages in a magazine that showed you what the game would look like. It worked, and a lot of bad games got a lot of big-time sales figures because we didn’t know any better.
Looking at you, Castlevania 64.
Nowadays, however, games get trailers just like movies do. And they’re sometimes amazing and wonderful and really set the tone for the franchise. Case in point, the first Gears of War franchise, with the Gary Jules’ “Mad World” cover. It was an iconic commercial that launched a mediocre franchise.
Star Trek Online’s Stormfall also has a big-time trailer. It focuses on big space battles, characters clashing and Janeway looking more Ellen Ripley than Ellen Ripley could have ever hoped for. If Star Trek Online is something you’ve been meaning to try, this may be the time to jump in.
For those new to the game, just returning or long-time players, here is what comes with Stormfall according to TrekMovie.com;
