Star Trek ship creator Eaglemoss’s end may be upon us.

For those unaware, Eaglemoss is a model maker that specializes in not only real-world cars, ships, and the like but in franchise creations too. Iconic movie and television show model kits were one of its biggest creations, and they dove off and into other things like smaller, pre-built models as well. Namely, miniature Star Trek model ships.

The company created an entire bunch of them and would send them out once a month to subscribers of their service. It was a mostly successful enterprise and was one of the biggest manufacturers of Star Trek merchandise going.

At least for those who collected the franchise’s model ships.

Yet, all that changed due to Covid, and the enterprise that was once posting monster numbers of $80 million USD per year, was doing just $37 following 2020. The loss of income, with the rising combination of orders they had to fulfill, as well as paying off the rising cost of vendors hurt the company severely and the company then filed a “Notice of Intention”, which usually (though not always) supersedes a filing of bankruptcy.

As a company, they’ve mostly gone dark and sent out their last suspected orders this week.

While there were some who pointed out this could mean something completely different, one website, called DownTheTubes, is painting a very bleak picture.

Eaglemoss sunk by accumulating debt?

While Eaglemoss themselves haven’t spoken on any of this as of press time, this is a very sad report. The website claims that Eaglemoss was operating at a loss of just $1.02 million dollars, to $12.5 million at the end of 2020.

They also claim that due to the 2020 lockdown, the company couldn’t release their product “by “traditional newsagents” as DailyStarTrek puts it. Eaglemoss does more than just create miniatures and models, as they’re also a staple at British newsstands across the countries of the British isle.

The company may attempt to sell itself, which could save the brand but that’s a long shot at this point it seems.

The company hasn’t done anything to debunk the claims that have come up over the last week or so, making it unlikely this is just uncontested conjecture.
