Star Trek Online is bringing in another major name to their game.
Star Trek Online is at it again. The free-to-play, massively multiplayer online role-playing game where you can play as a member of Starfleet. You can take command of ships, build your crews, and partner up with legacy characters from shows and films gone by.
While the game launched in 2010, it’s only been the last few years (seemingly) that major series cast members have popped up in the game. Star Trek Online has brought back a whole host of Star Trek characters over the last few years, with the names ranging from Deep Space Nine’s Leeta, once again played by Chase Masterson, all the way to Kathryn Janeway, once again played by Kate Mulgrew.
Many of the crew members of old have popped up at some point, like Garrett Wong as Harry Kim, and Denise Crosby as Natasha Yar.
Now, however, a huge name on the level of Janeway will be joining the game, as Gates McFadden will be reprising her role as Beverly Crusher for the upcoming Refractions event. Here’s the synopsis for the event (via TrekMovie.com);
"Players will experience the conclusion of the “Terran Gambit” arc where we find Terran Emperor Wesley Crusher has merged with The Other, and now wields its terrifying power. The Federation must find a way to put a stop to the emperor’s reign of terror as he makes a course to Earth, digitizing everything in his path."
This is the third piece of Star Trek property Gates McFadden has been in since returning to the series
Gates McFadden is really getting the most out of her second stint with the franchise. Not only is she recording lines for Star Trek Online, but fans of course know she’s back with the franchise through Picard’s final season.
But Online and Picard aren’t the only things she’s been working on. She had a cameo role on the Prodigy episode “Kobayashi”, where her Beverly Crusher character camoed alongside the likes of Spock, Uhura, Odo, and others. However, her character was the only one to get new lines for the episode, as all of the other actors and actresses who appeared in cameo roles were either deceased or unable to record new lines due to health issues.
So her turn on Prodigy will forever be unique.
