Star Trek video games should be given more respect than they get.

Star Trek is nearly 60 years old, and with being a franchise with as much time under its wings as Trek, they’ve seen their fair share of merchandise. Among their most notable, and maybe less talked about, are their copious amounts of video games. There are possibly more Star Trek video games than there are seasons of Trek shows at this point.

Ranging everywhere from old MSDOS games to MMORPG outings like the current Star Trek Online, Trek has been to every gaming boundary and back. Yet, despite being such a well-known property, Trek games don’t get the same love that other properties like Star Wars often get. Right now everyone is over the moon about the current state of Star Wars video games, at least from where they’ve been in years past.

With the release of Star Wars Jedi: Survivors, Star Wars fans are getting a lot of love and praise for their property, yet Trek? Not so much. rek released two new games over the course of a year Star Trek: Prodigy: Supernova and Star Trek: Resurgence. Supernova got middling but decent reviews, while Resurgence got some really strong reviews by high-profile outlets.

Neither did for the Trek brand what Jedi: Survivors did for Star Wars.

And we understand that Trek isn’t as big as Wars, so we’re not asking for the same amount of sales. We’re just asking for some genuine praise for what appeared to be a very solid title aimed at more casual games and a very well-received title aimed at more hardcore gamers.

It seems that despite putting out genuinely good games in recent years (capped off by 2016’s Star Trek OnlineSpace.com’s top-rated Trek game of all time), Trek still can’t get the love and respect they deserve for making great content for gamers to enjoy.
