Chris Pine just opened up about his knowledge of the future of Star Trek and even offered his advice to those in charge at the Paramount Skydance Corporation. Whenever a new Star Trek project gets underway, it's natural that past actors of the franchise will be asked about it.
While at the Sundance Film Festival to promote his new film Carousel, Chris Pine was asked by Variety what he knew about the new Paramount leadership and their plans for Trek. His simple answer: “You probably know more than I do.”
Pine, of course, became famous playing the young James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek and its two sequels. There had been hopes to continue the Kelvin Timeline series but that seemingly ended up faltering after 2016’s Star Trek Beyond.
Trek fans have been excited by the Paramount Skydance merger, and it sounds like the new leadership wants to make Trek a priority, not just on TV. Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who wrote and directed Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which Pine starred in, are working on a new Trek film.
However, that movie won’t be connected to the Kelvin Timeline movies, and thus Pine is unlikely to star in it. When asked by Variety if he had any advice for those in charge of Trek, Pine gave a perfect answer.
“Advice? Have fun, good luck, live long and prosper.”
As much as it could be fun to see the Kelvin movies continue, Pine appears to have moved on from playing Kirk. He seems fine with the franchise moving forward, and his advice to just have fun is one the new Star Trek creators should take to heart.
