Michelle Yeoh has her next project. The Oscar-winning actress, who played Emperor Philippa Georgiou on Star Trek: Discovery and the recent spin-off Paramount+ movie Star Trek: Section 31, will star in an action film titled The Surgeon. It will be produced by Thunder Road, the company behind the John Wick saga and its assorted sequels and spin-offs. Roshan Sethi, a physician and co-creator of the FOX television series The Resident, is set to write and direct The Surgeon.
Given Yeoh’s status as an international action icon, she will surely be called upon to beat up more than a few bad guys. According to the entertainment site Deadline, “The film will follow a retired surgeon (Yeoh) who is abducted and forced to operate on a mystery patient. Though greatly outnumbered, her captors have overlooked her greatest weapon: 35 years of surgical experience, leading to an explosive and brutal confrontation during which she outwits and cuts down her enemies in a visual style that defies anything you have seen before.”
Yeoh is busier than ever in her long career. Building on the momentum she gained from starring in the surprise blockbuster Everything Everywhere All at Once, for which she won an Academy Award, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award, Saturn Award, and more, she’ll be seen later this year reprising her role as Madame Morrible in Wicked: For Good. Also on the way are Ark: The Animated Series, for which she’s providing a voice, Avatar 4 and 5, and the show Blade Runner 2099.
Can’t wait for any of those upcoming projects? Star Trek: Section 31 is still available on Paramount+. And, as of April 29, it can be purchased as a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray combo, a 4K Ultra HS and Blu-ray SteelBook, Blu-ray, digital, and DVD. The physical iterations include several behind-the-scenes featurettes and a gag reel. According to blu-ray.com, as of May 3, Star Trek: Section 31 ranked at #10 on the Blu-ray bestseller list. And though it’s no longer a secret, spoiler warning ahead: Yeoh’s Everything Everywhere All at Once co-star and fellow Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis makes a quick cameo appearance as Control in Star Trek: Section 31.
