60 years of boldly going and, hopefully, much more to come.

Star Trek fans continue to celebrate the franchise’s diamond anniversary, as the beloved science fiction saga is hopefully setting course for another 60 years of movie and television excellence. And even with the controversy surrounding recent Trek series like Discovery and Starfleet Academy, TOS legend George Takei firmly believes it “is living long and prospering.”

“Star Trek is a family show,” Takei explained in an interview published by AARP. “Our most steady audience members are grandpas and grandmas. Children and grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren [Takei then spoke of TOS’ spinoffs over the years]. So, it appeals to all the generations of our audience group. Star Trek itself is living long and prospering.”

Many Star Trek fans are naturally worried about the future of the franchise since, at least to our knowledge, there aren’t any live-action television or streaming Treks in production. However, Starfleet Academy and Strange New Worlds each still have seasons scheduled for release in 2027.

Plus, the children-centric animated webseries Star Trek: Scouts is doing well and just recently released its third season on the Blaze and the Monster Machines YouTube channel. And don’t forget, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley’s Trek upcoming movie will give all of us fans something to look forward to until Skydance’s CBS Studios can crank out more small-screen adventures.
